The Second Amendment is indisputably about arms. Not firearms. Not just rifles or handguns. ALL arms. This ALSO means pepper spray, knives, longbows, batons, tasers, grenades, cannon, artillery, etc. This distinction is profound, and it's wayyy past time to recognize this.  Let's take a trip back in time!

480 B.C.

"Molon Labe!" Did the Persians order the Spartans to drop their rifles?  Or, their...arms?  Spartans used spears, javelins, swords, longbows, and battle axes.  Even a child can tell these "weapons of war" are not firearms.

1778

"Come and take them!" Was Col. John McIntosh talking just about his men's rifles?  Or was he referring to their bayonets, cannon, and other weapons, when he conveyed this message to the British, while McIntosh's men prepared to defend Fort Morris in Georgia?

1831

"Come and take it!"  Did the citizens of Texas declare this about a rifle, or a cannon?  Did Mexican General Santa Anna demand back rifles, or a cannon?  Clearly a cannon is not a gun, but it was many men with guns who defended the possession of this piece of artillery.

1956 to Today

Eugene Stoner designed the Armalite AR-15 in 1956.  It's old enough to apply for Social Security in 2023.  It's not a new weapon, but it's the most popular semi-auto rifle in America, and probably will be for the next 50 years.  And the same Come and Take It sentiment exists in much of the gun community today.  But let's not forget, the Second Amendment is about Arms for the defense of our country.  After all, our Founding Fathers didn't write it after returning from a hunting trip.
